The host city of Bergen (population 280.000) is a UNESCO World Heritage City,  a European Capital of Culture, and, recently, designated by UNESCO as a City of Gastronomy.

Bergen has a rich Hanseatic and maritime heritage, and a thriving music and contemporary arts scene.

The city's lies at the entrance to a wondrous world of fjords, waterfalls and misty mountain peaks, and is often referred to as the Gateway to the Fjords of Norway.
